Rainforest and coastal mangroves provide an alluring scenic splendor on Koh Kong, and contemporary Phnom Penh stands in stark contrast to its harrowing tragedies once witnessed in the prisons of Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng. Cycle through rice paddies and jungle to the graceful Banteay Thom temple, another Cambodian classic. There is so much to experience on a journey through the glories and shocking stories of Khmer history.
itinerary
Arrival in Cambodia. We recommend traveling on an overnight flight to make the most of your time.
Your adventure begins in style this afternoon with a visit to the spectacular site of Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. Watch the sunset paint the tall spiers of this magnificent temple as twilight finally falls.
The classic Khmer architecture of the Bayon Temple is best admired in the bright early morning light, before the crowds arrive. Afterwards, you will be taken to Angkor Thom to begin your bike or ATV tour of many other wonderfully ruined temples. Pass picturesque rice fields, villages and jungles on your way to the Banteay Thom temple. In the afternoon, relax on a boat, passing the stilt houses of the floating villages of Tonle Sap Lake.
This morning, you will visit the magical temple of Ta Prohm. Place where the movie “Tomb Raider” was filmed, here the ancient stones succumb to the claws of nature. The fallen stone pillars entwine in the fatal embrace and the ruins are swallowed by the giant roots of jungle trees that threaten to consume them. The elaborate 10th-century temple of Banteay Srei is beautifully preserved and surrounded by locals and their traditional arts and crafts.
A quick flight to Phnom Penh. This afternoon, the glittering Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda await you, an oasis of splendid calm in the bustling city centre. The National Museum's priceless treasures bear witness to Cambodia's rich history
Another side of Cambodia's history is painfully revealed at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the notorious Choeung Ek Execution Camps. These moving memorials offer a glimpse into the horrors suffered by the people of Cambodia at the hands of the Khmer Rouge.
After breakfast, you will be driven to Koh Kong, enjoying a scenic drive that passes through atmospheric local villages, rice paddies and scenic mountain landscapes. Your journey will end in Kep, a serene retreat located on Cambodia's southeastern coast.
Here you will have two days to be enchanted as you explore the rich and natural beauty of Kep. From the idyllic surrounding coast to the wide city streets lined with ramshackle villas nostalgic for the region's former glory as a French town.
After your last breakfast in this little paradise, board your transfer to Phnom Penh airport to board your flight back to Portugal.
