After a leisurely morning, enjoy a city tour of Lima starting with the historic district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll through Plaza Mayor, the official center and place where Lima was founded. Continue to the historic Cathedral and Presidential Palace. With one of the best preserved centers in Latin America, you will feel colonial influence and the modern developments of the city.
Fly south to Arequipa, a colonial city in the shadow of the Andes. Today you will have a free afternoon to visit the beautiful 16th century Santa Catalina convent and stroll through the main square, Plaza de Armas. There are a few examples of complex Baroque architecture, all built from sillar, the local white volcanic stone.
Enjoy as you are driven through the spectacular scenery of the Aguada Blanca national reserve, under the shadows of the Ampato volcano. Your accommodation is located in the heart of the Colca Canyon. Here you can choose from a variety of excursions, including watching the condor in flight. There is also a visit to local villages or the opportunity to see beautiful pre-Columbian terraces that are still cultivated today.
After a morning of exploring the canyon, head towards Lake Titicaca and arrive at your hotel in Puno. The city is considered the folk capital of Peru, so don't be surprised if you see some vibrant traditional dances and music.
Explore the lake by boat on a tour, winding around the floating islands of Uros. You can also head to Taquile Island, home to a local Quechua-speaking community. Titicaca is one of the largest lakes in South America and the highest lake in the world. At times, the tranquil waters seem to create a perfect mirror image of the superb landscape. It's a photographer's paradise.
Transfer to the airport and board your flight to Cusco, capital of the Inca Empire. You will be met on arrival and taken to your charming hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day to explore on your own, getting lost in the labyrinth of alleys and steep staircases and stumbling through the sun-drenched squares lined with historic white-hued churches.
Explore more of this beautiful colonial city built on Inca foundations, take a walking tour of the cobbled streets and pretty squares. Discover the main square flanked by colonial arches and then head to the Inca site of Sacsayhuaman, an ancient fortress of massive boulders overlooking the city's red roofs.
Today you will discover the Sacred Valley of the Incas, visiting the colorful city of Pisac and the impressive Inca fortress in Ollantaytambo.
Get on the train and enjoy this trip with a panoramic view to Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. Located at the tropical base of the Andes, your first glimpse of the citadel is always a special moment. Lost to the world for centuries, it is a highlight of any trip to Peru. Overnight at a hotel in Aguas Calientes, a lively village on the banks of the Urubamba River.
Today you will have the opportunity to delve further into this location. Get a unique experience of the ruins, rising at sunrise to visit the fog-shrouded citadel before the crowds arrive. In the afternoon we return to the panoramic train, this time heading to Cusco, where you will spend your last night.
It's time to say goodbye to this wonderful country and board your flight back to Portugal via Lima and Madrid. It's the end of your adventure for now, but Peru has a habit of captivating people in such a way that they often end up coming back more than once.
