itinerary
Vital, vigorous, glamorous, the city of Moscow epitomizes modern Russia, where a cosmopolitan vibe is underpinned by historic landmarks. No matter what time of day or night you arrive, Moscow will be buzzing: this is a 24-hour city with infinite energy. You will be staying in a hotel well located in the city centre, with the Bolshoi Theater and Red Square just a few minutes away, so you can access it quickly and easily.
Red Square is the obvious place to start. This is where you will find Lenin's Tomb, Saint Basil's Cathedral and the GUM store. But there's much more to the city, including the gold-topped Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the serene Novodevichy Convent and the Kremlin. This fortress within a city synonymous with the Cold War is home to the State Armory, with its extensive royal paraphernalia and a collection of Faberge eggs.
This morning, you are free to explore Moscow on your own. If you are interested in Russian art, we suggest a visit to the Tretyakov State Gallery and its exclusive collection. In the afternoon, you will be taken to Sapsan train station for your train towards St. Petersburg. Upon arrival, you will be taken to your hotel, your home for the next 3 nights.
St. Petersburg is the ideal place for an overdose of arts and culture, but it also includes the pulse of modern Russia. Start in the historic Baroque center, which rivals Venice for its canals. Your private guide will show you the main sights, from Nevsky Prospekt and Palace Square to Vasilevsky Island. You will also visit Peter and Paul Fortress, resting place of Saint Petersburg founder Peter the Great.
Save the best for last and head to the Hermitage in the morning. Its 6 magnificent buildings, including the unique Winter Palace, house 3 million works of art. Fortunately, you'll have a private guide to help you enjoy it all. Free afternoon to enjoy Saint Petersburg at your own pace.
Say goodbye to resplendent Russia, with a final look at those domes and sparkling waterways as you depart. We take care of taking you to the airport for your flight home.
